How to correctly store your shampoo and conditioner bars

At StarBars, we want all of our customers to have a successful experience. The best way to store the shampoo and conditioner bars is on one of our wooden trays. But if you're wondering how to use the tray, here’s some instructions. 

You can leave the tray into the shower: The wood is mildew and mold resistant. The tray looks really pretty, but actually those channels allow the bars to sit up high and drain between uses. This is so important to extend the life of the bars. If the bars sit on the edge of the shower or on a shelf in the shower, they will probably end up in a puddle of water. They will be softer and might even get mushy. The tray protects the bars and you will get the full number of uses out of them - approximately 70 washes! 

Clean the tray now and then: When you buy a new set of StarBars, you might want to clean any shampoo left on your tray. I use an old toothbrush, but anything like a sponge or cloth would work just fine as well. 

Flip the tray over and let it dry out: If your tray stays wet all the time, there is a chance it could get waterlogged. If it’s not on a slatted surface, turn it over to let it dry.

Extend the life of the tray by rubbing a little mineral oil into it now and then, like you would a wooden cutting board. This is not a necessary step at all (I’ve never oiled mine tbh) but it wouldn’t hurt if you have some mineral oil and a little free time. 

The StarBars trays are handmade by a cabinet maker in Central Oregon. He makes them from wood scraps he gets from a mill in Portland.They are all short mill end pieces that are worthless to them, but to him they are the perfect manageable size for little trays.Otherwise, they would be  sending the small pieces to China where they would be ground up and used for particle board and then sold back to the US for cheap cabinet and construction materials. We feel great keeping the wood local!
