Why are Shampoo Bars so Expensive?

Why are shampoo bars so exPENSIVE?

When you look at a bar of shampoo or conditioner, it looks tiny compared to a big bottle. So why is the bar so expensive?

  1. Bottled shampoo and conditioner are mostly water. The rest of the ingredients are just small percentages of the overall formula. A bar, on the other hand, contains no water at all.

  2. Many bottled shampoos (especially ones sold in drug stores or grocery stores) contain cheap cleansing ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate or other sulfates. These cleansers are plentiful, cheap, and found in everything from car washing detergent to dishwashing detergent. But sulfates are seriously something that you don’t want to use on your head and hair! StarBars uses a gentle blend of cleansers, none of which contain sulfates. The price difference between sodium lauryl sulfate and our main cleanser (sodium cocoyl isethionate) is a lot - SLS costs around $30 for a pound, while SCI costs almost double that.

  3. One Star Bar lasts as long as two bottles. When you buy a set of StarBars for $40, that equals $20/bar which is the same as two $10 bottles. A bottle of Pantene at Walmart is $7.97. A bottle of Pureology shampoo is $37. By using a Star Bar you are getting all the ingredients you find in salon formulas for half the price.

  4. The ingredients in StarBars are the best you can find. We curate our ingredients from ethical and local suppliers. Our extracts (like ginger extract in the Strength line and seaweed extract in the Protect line) are literally top quality. Many of our ingredients are ethically sourced and organic. Nothing we use is tested on animals. Also, StarBars are gluten free.

  5. Shipping is included!
